“Show day” for students allowed time for middle and senior leaders from across the school campuses to come together including the business grounds managers to engage in leadership development using an awareness-based systems leadership approach. Leaders engaged in the what and how of leadership as described in Growing deep.
The group utilised practices such as circle time to develop a positive social field, journaling and dialogue walks to deepen thinking and engage in generative dialogue in order to unleash new ways of thinking about roles and responsibilities.
The afternoon session provided opportunities to use systems thinking to explore current reality and preferred future for relevant aspects of leadership across the College. Leaders reengaged in circle time at the end of the day to share their areas of focus and what emerged for them as well as planned action. Principal Kaye Mathwin-Cox actively and collaboratively engaged in the learning process throughout the day, demonstrating the commitment to an eco-centric rather than an ego-centric approach to leadership.
It will be exciting to see how the leaders continue to develop their capabilities for innovation at Unity college.
