Primary leaders engage in leadership for the emerging future

Posted on 19/03/2019

Primary leaders met at Good Shepherd Para Vista to “nurture collective and individual leadership practice as guided by Growing deep using an awareness-based system leadership approach”.

The day commenced with principal, David Wilksch, sharing his leadership journey and the impact of Awareness Based Systems Leadership in relation to personal and collective leadership and learning.

The group engaged in awareness-based practices, which assisted them to process through the U of Otto Scharmer’s theory U.

The Vocational Practices of Growing Deep and current research focusing on impact of leadership helped to focus the leaders on areas of exploration at their school site.

Through a systems-thinking approach, the participants then identified an area of learning/leading at their school, exploring Current Reality and Preferred Future.

Areas of investigation included learner agency, student leadership, valuing the multi-cultural, multi-faith nature of learning communities, the role of CS in the curriculum, reflection, collaboration, innovation and creativity, literacy program, teacher engagement, home-learning.

The group have decided to continue to collaborate, and take an awareness-based system leadership approach to learning, with Growing Deep as the underlying framework.

Empowering Learners

Posted on 05/06/2018

One of the most powerful key note presentations at the recent Learning Environments Australasia conference in Sydney came from Peter Hutton who was the principal at Templestowe College in Melbourne.

The education revolution is not about 5 Cs or snappy furniture, or visible learning, positive psychology or PBL or any other shiny objects or programs rather it is about empowering learners, flexibility and deep integration with community.

How are we going in the ‘empowering learners’ stakes? Does your learning community include the learners in decision making processes?

The Quality Schools Survey has provided students with an opportunity to let us know what is working for them and what can be done differently.

Analyzing the results of the survey provides a great opportunity to listen to their thoughts, dig deeper into their responses with them and work towards greater empowerment.

If you require any support to interpret and use this data effectively do not hesitate to contact Mignon Weckert mignon.weckert@lesnw.edu.au.

What happened on Reformation Day?

Posted on 02/11/2017

Yesterday many people had the opportunity to gather in Adelaide city to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.
Amongst the plethora of events for everyone to attend, staff from LESNW had the opportunity to hear about the partnership of Caritas Australia and Australian Lutheran World Service. Sister Anne McGuire, member of the Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Head of Mission and Chey Mattner, Executive Secretary of ALWS, talked of the combined efforts of the Catholics and Lutherans working together to support those in need. A transcript of their presentation is attached. Along with students from Concordia College, they concluded with a heartfelt presentation on Welcoming the Stranger. A video copy of Welcoming the Stranger for older students can be found here and for younger students here, and a printed version is available here.
We thank staff and students from Concordia College for also representing our learning communities at the Morning Prayer Worship, Ecumenical Lunch and the Evening Prayer Service. We also thank students and staff from Immanuel College for their assistance at the Ecumenical Lunch. Their presence was a visible sign to the wider church of our acknowledgement of the significance of the day. We look forward to hearing stories of how other communities celebrated the day.
