… takes time, requires risk taking, patience and long term commitment.
Connections to Growing Deep included the following:
- Excellence in learning
- Ongoing improvement and innovation
Specific skill development
- Engaging the Community: Listening and understanding, Building support, Networking and strategic relationships
- Focusing on Outcomes: Sharing for improvement
The first session involved the staff working in cross school groups of 3, in a case clinic situation, supporting each other to share challenges and to explore new and innovative solutions.
In session two they were informed about the work of the Institute of Educational Assessment in particular the Future of Educational Assessment and in Session 3 they explored the role of the learner in the assessment process reflecting on their current unit and providing each other with helpful and specific feedback.
There is now a common language developing across the school. The collaborative professionalism demonstrated throughout the day as teachers listened and provided feedback and encouragement was inspiring.
The most important aspect of culture change was summed up in the words of a couple of staff members “Imagine what learning will be like at this school in a couple of years!!”
