“So, here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life-your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking around life – and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. …God brings the best out in you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” Romans 12: 1,2 (MSG)
The start of the year always begins with great intentions about what I will and won’t do. Not too extreme of course but ‘aspirational” right? Firstly, become more healthy; code for eat less rubbish, get into probiotics, increase alcohol free days, reduce caffeine intake. Do more mindfulness exercises, and yoga instead of all cardio and strength. Read the Bible more regularly and journal more often. Source new podcasts on leadership, theology, education, spirituality, global issues, music, sport… Spend less money on person ‘wants’ rather than ‘needs’. Oh, and be more present with my family and friends …. and that’s just the start.
I am exhausted already thinking about all the things I need to do to make myself look better, feel better, be better (in everything!)
Paul gives me a different and a much BETTER option, to take everything I do, EVERYTHING and hand it over to God! To fix my attention on God who will sort out all the “renovation’’ working from the inside! “God brings the best out in you, develops well-formed maturity in you”! Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
The challenge is however ‘handing over control’ of these things to God, being aware of God’s wise and loving presence 24/7 and allowing God in on the decision making!
So, my challenge and blessing for 2020 is:
Fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out!
