An enthusiastic group of Christian Studies Leaders from kindies, early learning centres, primary and secondary schools met on Friday 11th May.
The first part of the day was spent reflecting on actions from our last meeting where the leaders worked on ensuring the requirements of Christian Studies and its leadership are met on each site. These requirements can be found in appendix 1 and 2 of the Christian Studies Curriculum Framework (CSCF) and shape how we understand the importance of Christian Studies in our learning communities.
The May meeting continued the exploration of the foundations of the CSCF and focused on the learner. We asked some of the big questions:
- Who are our learners?
- How do they best learn?
- What is research telling us?
- How does this align with the pedagogy of Christian Studies in our Lutheran sites as outlined in the Christian Studies Curriculum Framework?
- How does this affect how we lead and teach?
We would encourage you to have a conversation with your Christian Studies Leaders about your site’s pedagogical approach to Christian Studies and some actions you might take in your classroom. And if you are a CS Leader that wasn’t able to get to this session it would be great to see you next term when we will be further exploring the philosophies and practices of the CSCF. Details will be published later this term.
