Members of the Board were informed about the focus of LESNW to Nurture collective and individual leadership practice as guided by Growing Deep, using an awareness-based system leadership approach which is underpinned by the work of Otto Scharmer (Theory U) and Peter Senge (Organisational Learning: Systems thinking).
The group engaged in deep ways of listening to each other, examined the Vocational Practices and viewed a section of “Most Likely To Succeed” focusing on Essential Skills. This helped to elevate the group’s thinking about the kinds of evidence which reflects “Excellence in Learning” for the emerging future.
LESNW is developing a document which builds on the work of LEA and this document provided a reference for the Board. The school has already identified Learning Principles which align directly to the Vocational Practices. The identification of evidence which will strengthen “Excellence in Learning” is the next step in ensuring a whole school vision and alignment of learning across the college.
The following day, principal Francois Pienaar and members of the leadership team spent time exploring system thinking capabilities and practices which focus on the ‘how’ of leadership and connect directly to Growing Deep.
It was a privilege to work with the Board and leaders and to provide ‘space’ for the co-creation of a vision for leadership and learning for the emerging future at Living Waters Lutheran College, Warnbro.
