GCC/BLEA Governance Review – as you will know, during the holiday period a copy of the ‘BLEA – GCC Working Group Final Report’ was shared with us and the time line for responding was very short. We have been told that the reason for the very short turnaround is due to the deadline for the book of reports for General Synod. As a council we petitioned for a greater timeframe so that we might gather a collective response of our membership but the timeline was not extended. Member Learning Communities were encouraged to pass on any feedback (either to our Executive Director or myself) or indeed directly to the working group.
As a LESNW Council we believe that it is important that we make a response. If you would like to contribute to this response please email it to either our Executive Director or myself asap. firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com
The response we write will then also be shared with you, so that you in turn may share it with your communities so they are informed about it when the matter comes up at General Synod.
Two Wells – Liberty College Proposal – the concept of developing a new Lutheran School at Two Wells has been on the LESNW agenda for the last 6 years. In recent times this has been led by Steve Sanders and it is with great enthusiasm that I can share with you that the LESNW Council have endorsed the proposal (which will now go to the District Church Council and if their approval is given, to the Board for Lutheran Education Australia.) We must commend the LESNW secretariat and especially Steve on the professional and agile manner in which this has been approached. The level of due diligence and thoroughness has been outstanding in my opinion. Please continue to pray for this proposal.
New Policies – at the LESNW AGM earlier this year it was shared that changes will need to be made to our policies and practices around Needs Based Funding Distribution and the System Support Fund. Via the LESNW Finance Committee, these new policies have now been adopted and are shared below.
Most importantly, what these documents do is clearly outline the procedure and philosophy for Learning Communities that need to access extra financial support. Sincere thanks to our Business Director, Brad Richmond, for his work on this. Brad will be speaking about these with Business Managers next Tuesday at their meeting.
LESNW Council Structure review – at our LESNW Council meeting this week the working group (Daryl Trigg, Matt Schmidt, Corrin Townsend, John Proeve) presented an update of the review process which was endorsed by the council. Our aim is to have the changes ready to start in the new year. This means that in late October a draft constitution will (hopefully) be distributed to Learning Communities for consideration prior to a special meeting in early November. More details will be shared soon but in the meantime, the working group will be developing a ‘terms of reference ‘ for a ‘Governance Committee.’
Strategic Plan – as a LESNW council we believe the next step in formulating our strategic plan for the coming period is to survey Learning Communities – this will involve Principals and Directors as well as Governors and possibly senior leadership as well. So keep an eye out for this survey and please take the time to complete it – it will not be onerous, but it will be clarifying for us as a Council as we set strategic intents around how we might best serve our members.
If you have read through to here… thanks! I know the workloads that you all have and the weight of expectation that comes at you from a dozen different angles. But these matters are important as we develop strength both independently and interdependently.
Every blessing for the weeks to come.
