With the topic of gender identification as the focus for the main discussion, participants were led through a process of agreeing upon set norms to encourage open and generative conversation.
Professor Wendy Mayer and Rev Dr Stephen Haar (Australian Lutheran College) then led participants through a theological action research which allowed the various voices of theology and practice to be acknowledged and to be held in respectful dialogue with each other. This resulted in an open, encouraging and empowering dialogue as to how communities might respond to the issue.
The second day was focussed on participants experiencing a variety of pedagogies for engaging staff in doing God talk – whether that be required formation of staff or ministry in general.
As always, sessions and break times allowed participants to network and build collegial relationships, which is an important aspect of most conferences.
