Each term Primary Leaders traditionally meet at a learning community to engage in professional development and connect with colleagues from other schools who are in similar roles. Due to the restrictions of Covid-19, Primary Leaders adapted to the times and met via Zoom.
The learning focus for the group was ‘Engaging the Community’, which is one of the capabilities within Growing deep. This capability proved very relevant to unpack and explore, particularly given the different landscape we find ourselves in.
In small, virtual ‘break-out rooms’ participants shared their experience of a recent project or change within their school, and made connections and references to the descriptors of modelling integrity, listening and understanding, building support and networking & strategic relationships.
The Lab session also involved:
• Identifying challenges and creative solutions to Engaging the Community in the current climate
• Identifying personal capabilities to strengthen
• Engaging in personal and collective reflection time
• Connecting with first time participants who are in more remote schools – a hidden blessing of meeting ‘online’
Despite not being able to meet in person, it was wonderful to utilise technology that enabled important networks and professional relationships to continue to grow and flourish.
