Using an awareness-based system thinking approach. the staff at LWLC engaged with all sections of Growing Deep using practices such as journaling to tap into deeper levels of thinking, generative listening and a dialogue walk which can unleash new levels of creativity (a little challenging on a 39 degree day!)
Day 1 all staff explored ‘our foundation’ and what that could look like within their learning community. A self-assessment tool was used to lead discussion about the Capabilities identifying strengths and areas for growth. Staff identified relevant aspects of the vocational practices to their roles and then explored ways they could build relevant aspects of culture.
Day 2 provided the opportunity to reflect and process learning from the previous day with colleagues from different sections of the school. The main focus for the day was to identify relevant aspects of “Excellence in Learning” and to develop prototypes which will be trialed from day 1 of the year.
The energy and creativity demonstrated by the staff during this section of the workshop was inspirational. Prototypes were shared in small groups with colleagues providing feedback. It was a fantastic way to commence the year where all staff share a common understanding and commitment to ‘who we are” as a Lutheran learning community, what we do, and how we do it.
