The LESNW Secretariat received the letter below from The Australian Law Reform Commission requesting assistance in its inquiry into religious exemptions in anti-discrimination legislation.
The inquiry includes consideration of human rights such as freedom of religion and protection from discrimination.
To determine whether any changes to the law are needed, they indicate that they need to understand how the law operates in practice, and the impact the law has on religious institutions and individuals.
At the recent Board for Lutheran Education Australia (BLEA) meeting it was resolved that responses to this Australian Law Reform Inquiry are to be channeled through the regional offices. To this end, the LESNW secretariat will be responding to this Inquiry. If any member learning community wishes to contribute to this response, can these be communicated directly through to me by Friday 12 July.
