The Tanunda Lutheran School Early Learning Centre was selected as a pilot centre for the Re-Imagining Childhood project undertaken by Carla Rinaldi when she was in SA as Thinker in Residence. As a part of this project, an element of the Re-Imagining Childhood report became an Action Research project for the ELC. Throughout last year the ELC had an ongoing Ornithology focus and it was named the ‘Language of Birds.’
The children developed this concept as they noticed that there were not many native birds visible in the school’s Bush Block. The ELC then worked with our year three class who constructed a number of Bird Hides that were placed in the Bush Block. Soon after, the children noticed that significantly more native birds were being observed in the Bush Block.
The culmination of the year-long project was that our ELC children had an exhibition of their work at the Barossa Regional Gallery which was incredible and a very proud moment for our school and ELC. Nature Play magazine has used one of the beautiful pieces of artwork for it’s cover, an additional beautiful piece of artwork has featured along with the poem, NO WAY. THE HUNDRED IS THERE.
