All things new, the start of a new year in our learning communities!
I love this Bible verse so much, but I have been challenged in new ways to engage with it.
At Christmas, I was given a book with a bible verse on alternate pages to provoke thinking around each text. Through the journaling process I have been challenged to consider how I view situations and people, how I speak about things and what I am listening for. Am I only focusing on those things which are in alignment with my way of thinking, or for those things which challenge me?
It made me think that it might be a new year, but if I take the same old ways of seeing, speaking or hearing, it’s not new at all!
When I read the passage in Isaiah, I was surprised by two parts I had NEVER noticed before which are in between “I am making all things new”: “Don’t think about the past” and “There it is! Don’t you see it?”
So often we are choosing to look in the same direction or even living in “the past”. We find ourselves right back making the same judgements about particular people and situations.
But God shouts: There it is! Do you see it?
This is our challenge and blessing for the new year. God is creating something new! We have the choice to be stuck in the past, see things as we always have or look in a different direction, with a new perspective and be co-creators with God. Roads in the deserts, streams in thirsty lands, and much more. There it is!
