Special General Meeting: On behalf of our Board I’d like to thank everyone who attended our Special General Meeting last Thursday. The matters before us were complex and had the potential to cause division and disunity, the very opposite of what we have been trying to achieve as a Board.
However, the vote to realign the base modelling for 2021 funding distribution and to increase the System Development Fund (SDF) contributions by 0.5% for two years, with 1% of community contributions quarantined as a transition fund to assist communities affected by the Commonwealth Funding Distribution SRS Transition model change, was passed with a 97% majority by the communities present.
As a Board and FRAC we will be spending some time assessing the last 3-5 months and what we have learnt from this time and what we might do differently if we had our time again, but my early observations are:
- Our Governance structures are strong – our Board and FRAC listened and asked questions, always had the ‘whole of association’ in mind and have been completely transparent and visible.
- Our Culture is strong – our Learning Communities are clearly committed to the statements that we are a ‘community of communities’ and that we are ‘better together’.
- Our Secretariat staffing is strong – John, Brad and the team have continued to lead with enormous integrity, dedication and passion for all of our Learning Communities.
- Our policies are strong – our deliberate direction has been to move away from a ‘secretariat centric’ model to one where we see LESNW as ‘all of us.’ The strong willingness to come together as an Association through an issue like this clearly demonstrates that we are quickly moving away from any thinking that suggests ‘us and them’… it’s just ‘us’.
Strategic Plan Strategies – We are hopeful that we will be able to share the strategies (for feedback) around our goals in the coming weeks, with an intent to have this stage of our Strategic Planning complete by the end of the school year.
I wish you all every blessing for the remaining days of this term and hope you are able to find some down time during the holidays.
