The staff at Golden Grove Lutheran School started the year learning with educators from other Lutheran learning communities to explore contemporary researched-based perspectives to support students engaging as mathematicians. Each term they have been meeting to further develop their thinking and to explore new strategies with their learning. Last term they focused on Tasks Vs Learning with a specific goal of co-construction of Non-routine cognitive learning.
This week the focus was on conceptual learning. The teachers had a discussion about the following blog post https://shelearnsaboutlearning.wordpress.com/2018/06/26/its-just-not-mathematics/ and reading https://www.youcubed.org/evidence/fluency-without-fear/
They then went on to explore planning, with a focus on mathematics conceptual understandings. It was fabulous hearing them discuss how valuable it has been to co plan, co teach and co reflect on the changes they are making. Professional collaboration in action!
