With the 2018 School year kicking off it was time again for the SALLS (Senior Academic Leaders in Lutheran Schools) group to re-convene. The group met on Thursday 15th February at Endeavour College.
A significant change for this year was to lengthen the schedule for the day in order to take advantage of the travel requirements of members from remote schools. This meant a school tour from around 9:00am, with the meeting beginning at 10:00am, and a 3:00pm finish.
Major items of business centered around the proposal of a beginning teachers’ day for Middle/Senior/Secondary schools, similar in scope to the Primary Beginning Teachers’ days and revising the charter of the SALLS group (some of which had been acted on – e.g. utilizing a full day), as well as the regular updates from LESNW. Perhaps the highlight of the day was a workshop session about how the Professional Learning Plan process looks in each of our learning sites. Wisdom and experience was shared, with members looking to support each other with these processes. Moving forward, part of the SALLS charter will be to look at common events (e.g. 500th Anniversary of the Reformation) in our learning sites, in addition to Lutheran Schools Week, in order to further develop the relationships between schools. The next meeting is scheduled for 17th May at Concordia College, where there will be a focus on the role of senior leadership in general staff well-being.
